Lady Macquarie’s Chair
Mrs Macquarie’s Chair is also known as Lady Macquarie’s Chair. It is located directly east of the Opera House on the eastern edge of the Royal Botanic Gardens. It’s a Sydney landmark, and hands down probably the best spot in Sydney to take a photo at sunset. As you can see from this photo, when you get a good sunset at this location you look in awe at the sheer beauty of Sydney.
On this particular evening when I took this photo, a massive storm had just passed over Sydney. I had gone there with a few friends to capture the storm as it rolled over the city. It was totally insane. The wind, the lightning and the rain were extremely intense. It was a very unpleasant shooting experience. It actually got a bit much for me and I retreated back to my car where I sat and waited for the storm to fully pass over. I was going to leave, but I decided to wait. I wanted to catch up with my friends afterwards. Then all of a sudden after about 20 minutes when the storm had passed over it was all calm. I started to see some pink in the sky. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I felt so wind swept from the storm I really didn’t want to get out of the car, but I soon realised the whole sky was going to light up, and these specula moments don’t last long. How could I not possibly take a photo of this rare opportunity.
I dashed out of there car and ran back to my original shooting position, the whole sky was ablaze now, I literally had moments to set up and take a photo of this scene. I was panicking, my hands were shaking, and adrenalin was pumping through my body. I had about 2 minutes to take a photo of this scene before it faded away. Thank heavens I made it just in time.
It goes to prove that after a storm, there will always be peace and tranquility.
